7 Major Chakras
Root or Base Chakra (MULADHARA).
This Chakra is located in the area of the coccyx at the base of the spine. It is tied to the functions of the circulatory system, reproductive system and the functions of the lower extremities. It is the center for our basic life force. It influences the testicles and ovaries, the legs, feet, the pelvic area of the body, the spine and the suprarenal glands.
Metaphysical Functions: This center is tied to that level of consciousness, which controls our life-promoting energies. Stimulated properly, it can awaken awareness of past life talents and ease fears and survival issues. It is the seat of kundalini, creative expression and abundance issues. This Chakra is the element earth and its colour is red.
Emotional/Mental attitudes causing or reflecting dysfunction relating to over activity in the Base Chakra; physically aggressive, belligerent, impulsive, inability to recognize limits, obsessively sexual, hyperactive and reckless. An under active Base Chakra can be reflected by manipulative, overly cautious, power conscious, possessive, need for approval behavior, craving excitement and change but refusing to act upon it, being overly tired, no energy to do what you want and reactiveness, aggression, belligerent and manipulative behavior.
Sacral or Sexual Chakra (SVADHISTHANA),
This center is partially tied to the function of the adrenal glands. It is also a major influence on the reproductive system and the entire muscular system. It affects the eliminative system of the body, the activities of the spleen, bladder, pancreas, kidneys, and the gonads. It is a major center for detoxifying the body.
Metaphysical Functions: This center influences sensation and emotion, desire, pleasure and sexuality. It is linked to the consciousness of creativity. It controls many personality functions. The feelings of other people are directly perceived with this Chakra making it one of the centers of extra-sensory perception and when stimulated can open communication with energies and beings on the astral plane of life.
Emotional/Mental attitudes causing or reflecting dysfunction in an overactive sexual Chakra can be selfishness, arrogance, lustful, overly proud or conceited, emotionally high strung, and constant power seeking. Under activity is reflected by attitudes such as mistrust of others, introverted behavior, inability to show emotions, worrying what others think, anti-social behavior and following the crowd.
This Chakra is the element water and its colour is orange.
Solar Plexus Chakra [MANIPURA).
This Chakra is tied to the Solar Plexus area of the body. This includes the digestive system, the adrenals, the pancreas, the stomach, the liver, the gall bladder and the nervous system. It assists the body in the assimilation of nutrients, and it relates to the functions of the left hemisphere of the brain. Working with this center can ease many crippling diseases, ulcers, intestinal problems and psychosomatic diseases. Metaphysically this center is tied to the level of consciousness, which can make us clairsentient - the ability to sense the feelings and emotions of others.
It is the center of empathy and general psychic impressions and when balanced opens awareness to the talents and capacities of other souls. It also helps attune us to the elements of nature.
Overactivity in the Solar Plexus Chakra reflects emotional/mental attitudes such as judgemental and critical, mental bullying, stubborn and absolutist behavior. Always planning and never manifesting, needing constant change and variety. Underactivity attitudes are; feeling isolated, afraid to learn the new, and psychosomatic problems. All reflect dysfunction in the body.
The element of this Chakra is fire and its colour is yellow.
Heart Chakra (ANAHATA).
This Chakra influences the function of the thymus gland and the entire immune system of the body. It is tied to the heart and the pulmonary activities along with the circulatory system and the vagus nerve.
It affects the assimilation of nutrients. It has a powerful influence on childhood diseases and the developing of a strong immune system from them.It also has ties to activities of tissue regeneration.
Metaphysically this center mediates and balances the activities of the other chakras. If it is out of balance, there is likely to be imbalance in the others. It relates to that level of our consciousness, which awakens higher compassion and our innate healing abilities.Anger, jealousy, blaming of others, miserly and stingy, overconfident and allowing oneself to be taken advantage of are mental/emotional attitudes reflecting dysfunction and over activity in this chakra,Needing constant confirmation of self worth, uncertainty, inability to enforce will, possessiveness, self doubt, feeling unloved and lacking compassion reflect under activity.
Air is the element of this Chakra and its colour is green.
Throat Chakra (VISHUDDA).
The throat Chakra is tied to the functions of the throat, esophagus, mouth, teeth, the thyroid and the parathyroid glands. It strongly affects the respiratory system, the function of the bronchia and the entire vocal apparatus.
Metaphysically this Chakra relates to the functions of the right hemisphere of the brain and the creative function of the mind. When stimulated it can awaken clairvoyance and can assist us in manifesting greater abundance.
Telepathic ability can be stimulated with Reiki energy awakening that level of consciousness that brings insight into the true laws of natural phenomena. People with an overactive throat Chakra tend to exhibit domineering, dogmatic, fanatical and over-reactive attitudes. They speak negatively/harshly, cling to tradition and can be hyperactive.
Surrendering to others, resistance to change, melancholy, stubbornness and slow response are emotional/mental attitudes reflecting under active energy dysfunction.
The colour for this Chakra is blue.
Brow Chakra (AJNA).
This Chakra is called the third eye. It lies in the middle of the head, behind the point between the eyebrows. It influences the functions of the pituitary and the entire endocrine system and also has links to the immune system. It affects the synapses of the brain and is the key to balanced operation of the hemispheres of the brain. It affects the sinuses, left eye, the ears, nose, nervous system and the face in general. Metaphysically, this is the center affecting higher clairvoyance and the entire magnetism of the body, the female aspects of our energies. It is linked to that level of the subconscious mind, which controls intuitive perception, creative imagination and visualization. Worrying, fearful, over- sensitive, impatient, belittling, "spaced out" emotional mental attitudes reflect over activity in the brow Chakra; whilst doubting, envy of others talents, forgetful, superstitious, fearful and worrying emotions due to under activity can cause dysfunction.
The colour for this Chakra is indigo.
Crown Chakra (SAHASRARA).
This center affects the functions of the entire nervous systems and the entire skeletal system of the body. It influences the pineal gland, all nerve pathways and the electrical synapses within the body. It is linked to the proper functioning of the medulla oblongata and the right eye.
Metaphysically this Chakra is a link to that level of the subconscious mind, which has ties to our most spiritual essence. It helps us to align with the higher forces of the universe and is a powerful influence in the purification of our subtle body energies. It links up to past lives and their effects upon us in the present.
Intensely erotic imagination, a need to feel popular and indispensable, and a need for sympathy indicate an over-active Crown Chakra. Feeling misunderstood, shame, self denial, having a negative self-image and lacking tenderness are emotional/mental indications of an under active Crown Chakra.
The colour of this Chakra is violet.
